Box Score FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 18-ranked
Salisbury University men's soccer team captured a 1-0 overtime
victory at Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls (8-0-2, 3-0 CAC) broke through in the 98th minute of
play, as junior midfielder Morgan Hunt
tallied his first goal of the 2010 season. The Millsboro, Del.,
native found some open space from 25 yards out and fired a booming
shot toward the right side of the goal. The shot went past the
Frostburg (3-5-1, 1-1-1 CAC) goalkeeper and gave
Salisbury its first overtime victory of the 2010 season.
The Sea Gulls got off to a quick start, earning a corner
kick just 21 seconds into the match, but could not capitalize. The
first half was even throughout, as SU outshot FSU 5-3.
Salisbury had a superior advantage in the second half of play, as
the Gulls peppered the Frostburg goal with 10 shots and earned
eight corner kicks but could not break through.
In overtime, SU tallied the only two shots, as Casey
Rector's header shot in the 96th minute was saved
before Hunt's heroics led the Gulls to their eighth victory of the
season.
SU sophomore goalkeeper John
Vnenchak tallied his third victory of the season and
was only forced to make a pair of saves in the contest. Frostburg
keeper Stephen Cavallo staved off a pair of shots for the
Bobcats.
The Sea Gulls are set to take on No. 17-ranked Johns Hopkins
University this Tuesday in Baltimore, Md., at 7 p.m. In 2009,
the two teams met in the second round of the NCAA tournament, with
the Blue Jays advancing on penalty kicks after 110-minutes of
scoreless action.
