Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team made a late run on the road, forcing overtime and coming up with a key Capital Athletic Conference victory at St. Mary's (Md.) College, 66-65.
The Sea Gulls (6-10, 4-4 CAC) trailed by eight points with less than three minutes to play in the second half and closed regulation on an 8-0 run as sophomore Nicole Sisco scored four points during the stretch, including the game-tying lay-up with 21 seconds showing on the clock, knotting the score at 60-60.
It was just one bucket in a huge night for Sisco, who scored a career-high 23 points. But the game-tying bucket wasn't even her biggest of the night.
After the teams played overtime scoreless for the first 90 seconds, St. Mary's (8-8, 4-4 CAC) broke the deadlock with a free throw. The lead would change hands three times during the final two and a half minutes. The final change came late as Sisco hit one of two free throws and then converted a lay-up with 40 seconds left to give the Gulls a 65-63 lead.
Senior guard Chante' McKinney converted a free throw to push the lead to three points and a late lay-up by the Seahawks could just get the home team within one as the final horn sounded.
McKinney also had a big night for Salisbury. She scored eight points and pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds while dishing out five assists.
Sisco was good for 11 rebounds, collecting her second double-double of the year; she also notched six steals, matching her career-best effort. Junior KC Curran scored 10 points for Salisbury, she and classmate Glen Charlton each played 41 minutes in the victory.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Saturday as they play their final non-conference game of the regular season, traveling to Trinity Washington University. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
