Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – After two postponements due to inclement weather, the Salisbury University women's basketball team finally squared off against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Stevenson University on Monday evening. After a strong first half by the maroon and gold, Stevenson fought back in the second half to earn its first conference win of the season.
Salisbury (7-12, 4-6 CAC) fell behind early in the game but a jumper by junior guard Glen Charlton in the 10th minute gave the Sea Gulls their first lead of the contest. Freshman Maggie Nagle added to that lead later on in the half, netting her first collegiate bucket with 3:09 remaining to give Salisbury a 26-21 advantage; less than two minutes later, Nagle drained a three-pointer to keep Salisbury up entering the locker room at halftime. Charlton led the charge, registering 10 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Mustangs (2-17, 1-10 CAC) would battle back in the second half, though, tying up the contest less than one minute into the stanza and continuing to build on their lead. Charlton nailed a pair of three-pointers just 30 seconds apart in a last-minute effort by Salisbury, but the scoreboard read 75-59 in favor of Stevenson as the final buzzer sounded.
Charlton led the maroon and gold, netting 18 points and pulling down five rebounds. Senior guard Chante' McKinney was just one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points and registering nine rebounds.
The Sea Gulls hit the road for their next contest, against CAC opponent Marymount (Va.) University on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m., before returning to Maggs Physical Activities Center for three straight games.
