Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team fell in its first Capital Athletic Conference game of the new year, 74-52, at the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles (7-5, 3-1 CAC) opened the game on an 11-4 run over the first four minutes of play. A bucket by Salisbury sophomore Nicole Sisco ended the early run. Sisco would score seven points in the game.
The teams traded baskets over the next five minutes, before Mary Washington would push the lead to double-figures. A 12-4 run allowed the Eagles to stretch their advantage to 30-14 with seven minutes remaining in the first half and they held a 40-21 edge at the break.
The Sea Gulls (4-8, 2-2 CAC) would cut the lead to 52-37 with 11:07 remaining in the game on a lay-up by junior Glen Charlton, capping a 10-0 run, but it was as close as they would get.
Charlton finished with a team-high 14 points leading the Sea Gulls while junior Milan Dry added 12 points and sophomore Katie McGahagan posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Rachel Martin led four Eagles in double-digit scoring with a game-high 21 points while Jenna McRae had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Salisbury will look to bounce back from Wednesday's game with another CAC matchup on Saturday as the Sea Gulls travel to Frostburg State University. The game is set to tip off at 1 p.m.
