Three Gulls tally goals; defeat Penn State-Harrisburg in conference play

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – Three Sea Gulls tallied goals for the Salisbury University men's soccer team, preserving its eighth-shutout victory of the season, in Saturday afternoon's 3-0 victory over conference-competitor Penn State University-Harrisburg.

Offense was no issue for Salisbury (9-2, 2-0 CAC) in the match as they totaled 25 shots, 14 on goal. With pressure early in the contest, junior midfielder Stephen Poorman found the back of the net off a cross by junior forward Tanner East to put the Gulls on the board first just 10 minutes in.

Junior captain Kyle Westbrook led the defense through a strong first half, only allowing two shots, neither on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Staedeli eliminated six cross attempts in the first period of play to hold the Lions (3-6-1, 0-2 CAC) scoreless.

The second half reflected much of the same play from the first half for the Sea Gulls, capitalizing on two more goals off of 13 shots.

Sophomore midfielder Chris Kittelberger headed in his second goal off the season in the 53rd minute off a flawless cross by sophomore forward Taylor Groginski. Later in the half, junior forward Matt Greene sealed the match with an unassisted goal taking on Lions' goalkeeper Deven Gerhart one-on-one.

The Sea Gulls saw time across the bench as 29 players contributed in the 3-0 triumph.

Staedeli finished the contest with two saves in his 80:54 of play. The Ellicott City, Md., native is now at 350:54 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. He is now 9-2 for the season and possesses a goals-against average of 0.48.

Westbrook and the defense showed no hesitation in their role for the contest, only allowing four total attempts for the contest.

The men travel to University of Mary Washington on October 9 for a conference clash with the Eagles. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m., from Battleground Athletic Complex.
