CAMDEN, N.J. -- The No. 16 Salisbury University men's soccer team fell for the first time this season to No. 13 University of Rutgers-Camden, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

The Scarlet Raptors (7-0) got on the board first and held the lead to remain undefeated for the season. The physical match played out to be a great one as the Gulls and the Raptors had 12 and 15 shots, respectively. 

Rutgers-Camden's first goal of the match played out in their favor after a foul was called inside of the 18-yard box with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, resulting in a penalty kick for midfielder Mitch Grotti of the Raptors.

In the second half, scoring started quickly. Just nine minutes in, Rutgers-Camden's Connor Hurff knocked the ball into the back of the net following up on a blocked shot by teammate Mike Ryan.

Trailing 2-0, Salisbury (5-1) put on an offensive charge started by seniors Jake Perry and Elliott Crompton. In the 67th minute, Crompton found Perry inside the 18-yard box, where Perry placed the ball in the left side of the goal. 

The charge fell short as time ran off, leaving the Raptors on top for the match.

Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Staedeli played all 90 minutes for the Gulls, finishing with four saves. Raptors' goalkeeper Mike Randall had three saves for the match. 

Salisbury heads to Woodbridge, Va., on Wednesday for its next match as the Sea Gulls meet up with Lynchburg College for a neutral site competition. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Howison Park Turf Field.
