Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 3 Salisbury University field hockey team suffered its first loss of the year, dropping a 1-0 decision at No. 20 Catholic University of America on Wednesday evening.
The Sea Gulls had their chances, with 11 shots in the contest, but could not force home a tally in the game.
The Cardinals (4-1) held a narrow edge in shots in the first half, 6-5, putting three of those chances on goal, which junior keeper Rachel Clewer turned away. Two of Salisbury's tries were on frame, both stopped by Catholic keeper Megan Comunale, sending the game to halftime scoreless.
The Sea Gulls (4-1) had six penalty corner opportunities in the first half and finished the contest with a 13-5 advantage in that statistical category.
Catholic broke through for the game's only goal in the second half, just seven minutes into the frame when Maura Campbell found Kim Hermann for the game winner.
Salisbury took six shots in the second half, putting all six on target, but Comunale was there to make each stop.
Junior Mallory Elliott led Salisbury's offensive effort with six of Salisbury's 11 shots in the game while sophomore Courtney Jantzen got off two shots in the contest.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Elizabethtown College at Sea Gull Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m.
