Salisbury takes down No. 12 York, 11-8, in CAC play

Box Score

YORK, Pa. - The No. 2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team grabbed its fifth victory over a ranked opponent on Saturday, defeating No. 12 York College of Pennsylvania, 11-8, while taking its second Capital Athletic Conference win.

Senior midfielder Donovan Lange, junior attackman Mike Kane and sophomore midfielder Brady Dashiell all scored two goals to lead the offense; Dashiell added an assist for a team-high three points.

The Spartans found the goal first, taking a 1-0 lead at the 11:27 mark of the first quarter, but senior attackman Rhett DePol answered to tie the game with 8:21 left in the frame.

Lange netted his first off an assist from senior attackman Luke Phipps to give the Sea Gulls their first lead.

York's Dakota Randall tied the game, 2-2, on a man-up score, but junior midfielder Sean Fitzgerald would regain the lead for Salisbury, which the team would hold for the rest of the game.

With a 4-3 lead after a goal by Tyler Hutson to start the second quarter, the Sea Gulls opened up with four-straight goals for an 8-3 lead. Dashiell's first goal sparked the run, while Kane, Lange and senior long-stick midfielder Zeke Smith found the cage, as well.

Salisbury held an 8-4 lead at the half, after a late Spartan score, and SU led in shots, 26-9, faceoffs, 10-of-14, and ground balls 18-10.

Two scores for York to open the second half cut the Sea Gulls' lead to 8-6, but Dashiell and Kane each added their second goals to retake the four-goal lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Spartans again cut the lead to two, before sophomore midfielder Thomas Cirillo capped the win with SU's final score.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Taylor improved his record to 8-0, playing all 60 minutes in the cage and making nine saves.

Salisbury now travels to No. 16 University of Mary Washington next Saturday, March 29 for game two of its current three-game road trip; the opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
