SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 5 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team honored its 10 seniors prior to Saturday night's game against Southern Virginia University and carried the emotion of the pregame ceremony onto the field, rolling to a 29-2 win at Sea Gull Stadium.

The Sea Gulls celebrated the careers of Josh Martin, Rhett DePol, Greg Korvin, Brandon Kendrick, Donovan Lange, Luke Phipps, Tim Stone, Chris Biank, Alex Taylor, and Zeke Smith. In the past four years, the program has a 65-8 record to go with three NCAA tournament berths and a pair of national championships.

Freshman Carson Kalama led the way for the Sea Gulls with five goals and three assists for eight points; all three marks are career highs for the Bel Air, Md., native, while seven Sea Gulls scored for the first time in their career in the game.

The Gulls (14-1) got the scoring started just 41 seconds into the contest as DePol fed Mike Kane in front of the cage. Kane put the chance away for the 1-0 lead and the start of a big night for DePol.

Preston Dabbs cut down the middle, walking in on Southern Virginia goalkeeper Tyler Cox, putting the ball in the corner for a 2-0 lead less than a minute later and DePol would make the lead three a few moments later. After Cameron Maples won his first faceoff of the day, DePol held the ball one-on-one with a Knight defender on the left side. He cut around the defender, and ran past the cage, slipping the ball in the lower right corner for a 3-0 lead as Salisbury scored on its first three shot attempts.

The goal and assist for the Chester, Md., native was the beginning of a night where DePol would finish with two goals and four assists, all coming in the first quarter.

The Knights got their first shot at the Salisbury goal just over three minutes into the contest when Nash Wilkey, the leading scorer for Southern Virginia (0-14), fired a shot from 12 yards out on the right wing. Taylor made the clean save, to give the Gulls possession; it was the only save the Woodbine, Md., native would make in just over five minutes in net.

Connor Summers would push the lead to four, taking a feed from Phipps following a Southern Virginia turnover deep in its defensive end less than five minutes into the game.

Phipps scored the fifth goal of the game, taking a pass across the Southern Virginia defense from DePol, and ripping a quick shot into the top-right corner.

DePol did it again 45 seconds later, coming in from the left side, around a defender, and shooting in the top-right corner; he would add his final two assists on scores by Thomas Cirillo and a cutting Kane in front of the cage for a man-up goal.

Salisbury finished the game 2-for-4 on man-up chances.

Salisbury started the second quarter in quick fashion winning the faceoff and racing downfield to score just seven seconds in. Kalama found freshman Kevin McDermott on the doorstep for the quick goal and a 10-0 edge.

Freshman Andrew Ternahan would put home the first of his career with 10:44 showing on the clock, taking a pass on the right side, spinning around a defender back to the middle and putting his shot in the top-right corner for the score and a 13-0 lead.

After the Knights would tally their first goal of the game, freshman Brendan Walker added his first career goal, with a rip from 12 yards out, in the top-left corner for a 15-1 Salisbury lead, and classmate Andrew Winwood would go for the first of his career moments later.

Kalama had two of his assists and scored three of his goals in the second quarter, including the final goal of the half, with four seconds showing on the clock.

Salisbury would take an 18-1 lead at halftime, holding a decided edge in shots (46-2), ground balls (30-7) and face-offs, having won 16-of-20 in the first half.

In the final 30 minutes of action, the Sea Gulls saw freshmen Brendan Bromwell, Troy Brown, sophomore Patrick Cleary, and Maples all put home their first career goals as Salisbury continued its dominant offensive play.

All four of Salisbury's goalkeepers saw time in Saturday's game, with Connor Anderson playing just over 21 minutes. Dan Feeney played 18:42 and freshman Colin Reymann played the entire fourth quarter, making four saves.

Salisbury will be off until Wednesday, when the Sea Gulls travel to Marymount (Va.) University for their final Capital Athletic Conference game of the regular season. The contest is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
