Seniors shine as men's soccer takes down Frostburg on senior day

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team took down the Frostburg State University Bobcats in Capital Athletic Conference play on its senior day on Saturday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

The win gives the team its fifth win at the SU Soccer Complex this season. The Sea Gulls have yet to lose or concede a goal on their home pitch.

The Gulls dominated throughout and used a senior touch on senior day to close out the Bobcats.

It would not take long for Salisbury to attack as Dolph Hegewisch beat his mark in the 12th minute before playing a brilliant cross to a streaking Brooks Zentgraf. Zentgraf had a good look on cage but headed it just outside the post.

Hegewisch's distribution was phenomenal all game as he then notched an assist in the 24th minute.

Hegewisch had the ball 15 yards over the half line and saw a cutting Kendrick Michel and lofted a through ball out in front of Michel and his mark. Michel turned on the jets and got to the bouncing pass just inside the 18. The keeper attempted to make a play on the ball, but Michel flicked it over his head for the early 1-0 lead.

At the half, the Sea Gulls had an 8-3 advantage in shots as the Bobcats only put one attempt on target.

Early in the second half Nicholas Carrington took a boot to the face defending the Bobcat attack. He got subbed back in during the 53rd minute and made an immediate impact.

Leslie Umunna was cutting his way through defenders in the attacking 18 and drew a foul for the penalty kick. Carrington kept to his perfect penalty kick record on the season and buried it to the left side for his fourth goal of the year.

The Bobcats settled in and got a few of their own chances late in the match.

In the 78th minute Jonathan Lippitt had a good look that Robert Fiackos dove to his right and kept the ball out of the net.

For the match, Fiackos recorded three saves and posted his fourth clean slate of the season to help cap his special day.

With just ten minutes remaining, the Bobcats had a two-on-one down low but a Kevin Miller slide tack would dissipate the chance.

Carrington, Miller, Mike Kramer, and Colby Fell all excelled as the Gulls' last line of defense. The 78th minute save for Fiackos was his only real test of the match.

The seniors were not done however. In the 82nd minute with the Bobcats playing up in search of a goal, senior Nathaniel Eiben had the ball on the counter attack and found a wide open Michel near the top of the 18 on the right side. Michel buried it to secure his first-career multi-goal game.

Salisbury returns to action with a midweek CAC contest against Christopher Newport University. That match is set for 3:30 p.m., at the SU Soccer Complex.
