15 Gulls score as men's lacrosse beats Southern Virginia, 26-7

Box Score

SALISBURY Md. – The No. 2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team welcomed Southern Virginia University to Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday afternoon and came away with a convincing 26-7 Capital Athletic Conference victory to move to 3-0 in conference play.

Salisbury started the game on fire, scoring the game's first 10 goals to get things going. Nathan Blondino struck first, burying a feed from James Burton on the crease.

Jake Rotman hit next, scoring one of his two goals as a part of a five-point outing for the senior.

Before the Knights scored their first goal, Carson Kalama scored two of his four on the day, Brendan Bromwell put one in, Thomas Cirillo scored one of his four goals for the day, Chase Berquist tacked one on, and Rotman added another to put the game away early.

Zach Danneman cracked the scoring column first for SVU with 6:26 left in the second quarter, and added another two minutes later.

Salisbury outscored the Knights, 2-1 the rest of the half to bring the half-time tally to 12-3.

Salisbury opened up the second half with six-straight goals, including a big tally from Davis Anderson for his second goal of the season. Following Anderson's score, Andrew Ternahan put one in for his second of the year.

Ternahan also caused five turnovers and scooped up five groundballs as he caused havoc in the middle of the field all game.

Salisbury outscored SVU 8-4 the rest of the game to be up 26-7 at the final whistle. Highlighting the stretch was a couple of beautiful first-career goals.

Corey Gwin got his on a lefty alley dodge that he put up top on a hard shot. Kyle Richbourg then got his cutting to the net when Kevin Bartenfelter found him. Richbourg, while coming across the face of the net, took a behind-the-back shot that found twine for his first in the maroon and gold.

Colin Reymann got the start in net and saved four shots, while only allowing three goals. Anthony Stavrakis, Hayden Donnelly, and Justin Bacon also saw time between-the-pipes.

As has become the custom of late, Duncan Campbell controlled the X with ease, winning 14-of-17 of the draws he took, to go along with seven groundballs. T.J. Logue  got numerous chances to faceoff as well and went 9-for-12 when called upon for Salisbury.

Will Nowesnick stood out defensively, as he was matched up on the CAC's leading goal scorer and came away with three caused turnovers and three groundballs.

The Sea Gulls return to play on Wednesday, March 30 when they host Wesley College for a 7 p.m., mid-week CAC showdown.
