Four different players score as Gulls get 4-1 CAC victory at Marymount

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team scored two goals in each half from four different players to earn a 4-1 victory over Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday afternoon.

After a back and forth start to the first half, Salisbury (6-8, 2-3 CAC) was finally able to break through in the 30th minute. Brooks Zentgraf was taken down by a Marymount (3-11, 1-4 CAC) defender in the box after receiving a pass from Dylan Parks, prompting a penalty kick for the Sea Gulls. Nick Carrington was called on to take the penalty kick and shot to the left side of the goal as the Marymount keeper dove right, giving the Sea Gulls a 1-0 lead. The goal was Carrington's second penalty kick goal of the season, giving him three goals on the year.

The Sea Gulls would score the match winner right before half in the 44th minute as Cameron Wilson found Parks in front of the net, who got a touch on the ball to sneak it past the Marymount goalkepper for a 2-0 advantage.

At the half Salisbury had doubled up the Saints in shots, 10-5, while both teams tallied two corner kicks apiece.

The Gulls would add two more goals in the second half. The first came off the foot of Dolph Hegewisch in the 61st minute after a cross from Zentgraf was loose in the middle of the 18. Hegewisch picked up the loose ball and put a one timer into the back of the net to stretch the Gulls advantage to 3-0.

Nick Njuki would also get in on the action less than six minutes later as he ripped a shot from just outside the 18. The Marymount keeper would get a piece of the ball before it bounced over him, deflected off the post and went into the net for a 4-0 Salisbury lead.

Marymount would get on the board in the 74th minute after being awarded a penalty kick of their own. Chris Cardenas earned the call and took the penalty kick for the Saints. Samuel Roy, who went in for Trevor Brookhart in net for Salisbury in the 66th minute, got a hand on the ball, but it was not enough as the shot went just over his hands to bring the match to its final score of 4-1.

Brookhart would get the win in net for the Gulls after allowing no goals on just one shot on goal. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury outshot the Saints 8-2 in the second half for an 18-7 overall advantage. The Sea Gulls also took five corner kicks in the second half to Marymount's zero.

Salisbury returns home on Sunday, October 15 at 1 p.m. to face York College of Pennsylvania for the team's senior day.
