SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team hosted Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday night at Maggs gym, but ultimately fell to the Spartans despite a strong second-half effort, 67-53.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Salisbury struggled to find its rhythm offensively for much of the first half. The team managed only a pair of field goals through the first 10 minutes as York forced contested shots.
• The Sea Gulls kept the score in single digits after one quarter, however, trailing the Spartans 14-6.
• Everything began to go York's way before halftime as it built a 39-17 lead on 25 second-quarter points.
• The maroon and gold came out of the locker room a different team in the second half and began to claw its way back from its first-half deficit. The Sea Gulls outscored the Spartans 17-12 in the third quarter behind seven points from Jada Welbon. Lauren Fortescue added another six points – including 4-for-4 from the stripe – while pulling in four rebounds as Salisbury cut its deficit to 51-43 with 10 minutes left to play.
• Momentum remained with the home team through the fourth quarter as Salisbury once again outscored York 19-16. This time it was a pair of freshmen – Emily Dilger and Kolby Brown – taking the reins with six points apiece.
• Despite shooting a strong 52.9 percent from the field while holding the opponent to 40 percent, the Sea Gulls were unable to overcome the early deficit, falling to the Spartans 67-53.

GAME NOTES

• Emily Dilger shot 55.6 percent from the field to lead Salisbury in scoring with 11 points. The forward also added a team-high six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
• Lauren Fortescue matched Dilger's six rebounds while also contributing six points and an assist.
• Jada Welbon added nine points, two assists, and a rebound in 26 minutes of action.
• Despite their struggles from the field for stretches of the game, the Sea Gulls made the most of their opportunities from the foul line, converting on 13 of its 17 chances (76.5%).
