LYNCHBURG, Va. – Powered by a pair of Molly Reardon goals in the fourth quarter and overtime, the Salisbury University field hockey overcame a first-quarter deficit to advance in the 2021 NCAA Championship Tournament with a 3-2 first-round victory over the Lynchburg Hornets on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Salisbury looked the get on the board in the seventh minute on a penalty corner. Three SU shots on the corner were turned away in front of the cage by Kayla Brady.
• Lynchburg put away the opening goal in the 12th minute when Brooke Hyland's slap shot snuck by Dom Farrace.
• After Brady turned away several Salisbury chances in the early stages of the second, Salisbury found an equalizer in the 27th minute. McKenzie Mitchell dribbled around the Lynchburg defense and buried a shot past Brady to nod the game at one.
• The game wasn't tied long as Emily Yanes gave Lynchburg the 2-1 lead heading to halftime with a redirect on the initial Jackie Lerro shot.
• Salisbury tied the game at two a minute into the fourth quarter. McKenzie Jamison forced a turnover in the midfield and pushed the ball over on a counter-attack to Allie Davis. Davis passed the ball across the goal line on the breakaway to Molly Reardon, who put away the one-timer to tie the game at two.
• It didn't take long into the overtime to send the Sea Gulls off to Baltimore. Reardon got the ball in the circle following a restart and beat Brady on a one-on-one to complete the comeback.

• Salisbury tallied 19 shots, including 16 on goal.
• The Sea Gulls also recorded 10 penalty corners.
• Molly Reardon scored a pair of goals, all in the second half. It was Reardon's first multi-goal performance of her career.
• McKenzie Mitchell scored a goal on four shots. Mitchell has scored in five of the past six games for the Sea Gulls.
• Allie Davis notched an assist on Reardon's fourth-quarter goal.
• Dom Farrace recorded two saves to collect the win.

• Lynchburg had 10 shots and six penalty corners in the game.
• Kayla Brady made 13 saves for the Hornets.

UP NEXT

• Salisbury will head to Baltimore to take on the second-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Saturday, Nov. 13.
• The game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at Homewood Field.
