SALISBURY, Md. – The 11th-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team used seven first-half goals to take care of the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins, 8-0, in the home opener on Wednesday under the lights at Sea Gull Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• It took less than a minute for the Sea Gulls to get on the board. McKenzie Jamison's shot was initially saved by VWU's keeper but McKenzie Mitchell corralled the rebound and pushed it past the keeper.
• Another loose ball in front of the cage doubled SU's advantage six minutes later as Jordan Brooks gathered the rebound to put Salisbury up 2-0.
• Brooks tacked on another goal in the 10th minute of the game on a pass from Molly Reardon around the VWU keeper.
• Kayler Townsend put Salisbury's fourth goal on the board a minute later as she intercepted a back pass on the Virginia Wesleyan backline and dribbled around the keeper for the score.
• Salisbury added a pair of goals in quick succession to open the second quarter with Elle Wood being involved in three tallies in the quarter. Rebecca Lloyd sent a ball through the VWU defense and Wood one-timed the ball to the goal. Less than a minute later, a penalty corner to Maci Long and a redirect by Wood led to an open Olivia Twilley far post to stretch the lead to 6-0.
• In the 20th minute, Grace Fipps played a ball into the goal circle from the end line and Wood one-timed the redirection into the open goal to give SU the 7-0 lead heading to halftime.
• Salisbury tacked its final goal of the game with three minutes left in the game when Emmalee Moore smacked a goal past the outstretched keeper in front of the net to secure the victory.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Salisbury outshot Virginia Wesleyan, 21-1.
• Jordan Brooks and Elle Wood each tallied a pair of goals. It is both players' first career multi-goal performance. Wood also added an assist.
• The Sea Gulls notched 16 penalty corners in the victory.
• Grace Fipps notched her first collegiate assist in the second quarter.
• It was the most goals scored in a game for SU since a 9-0 win over Wesley on Oct. 11, 2017.

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN GAME NOTES

• Stephanie Hoke recorded the lone shot for the Marlins.
• Emma Wohr stopped five shots in 17 minutes of action in goal.
