LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Salisbury University cross country teams brought strong performances to their final tune-up before the conference championships at the Rowan Border Battle on Saturday afternoon at Gloucester County Dream Park.

The Sea Gull men finished sixth out of 32 teams in the Division III Championship race, accumulating 224 points to land between fifth-place Swarthmore (185) and seventh-place Stevens (241). In the men's Open race, SU also finished sixth with 182 points.

The Sea Gull women earned 13th-place finish in the field of 34 for the Division III Championship race, racking up 328 points and landing between 12th-place Christopher Newport (322) and 14th-place Bridgewater (Va.) [331]. SU only ran four runners in the women's Open race and did not earn a team finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
- Matt Grossi fought through the adverse weather to finish 15th in the men's championship, crossing in 25:24.0 and just three seconds off his personal record.
- Connor Kinch cracked the top 25 in the championship race, finishing 25th in a personal-best 25:35.2.
- Austen Cave earned a 50th-place finish in the championship race in 25:56.4.
- Tristan Dutton (69th, 26:17.6), Garrett Saboy (75th, 26:19.9), and Ryan Cascone (97th, 26:30.2) all finished in the top 100 out of 278 runners in the championship race.
- In the men's open, Luke Petenbrink turned in an 18th-place performance in 27:00.9, while Shane Ivy (25th, 27:12.2) and Brett Parker (46th, 27:52.2) each made the top 50 in a field of 152.
Women
- Madi Sisson led the way for the Sea Gulls in the women's championship, missing her personal record by one second by finishing 53rd in 23:32.1.
- Rachel Roberts snagged 63rd by finishing in 23:39.7.
- Alyssa Santoro (23:43.5) and Anna Bodmer (23:45.3) finished with almost identical times in 70th and 71st, respectively.
- Peri Nelson crossed 76th in 23:53.8, while Leah Snyder (24:03.2) took 89th to give the Sea Gulls six top-100 finishers out of 263.
- In the women's open, all four SU runners placed 40th or better. Victoria Novak (26:26.5) led the way in 18th place, followed by Marisa Servis (28th, 26:58.4), Lily Rupp (39th, 27:51.6), and Erin Deak (28:10.3).
UP NEXT
- Following an off week, the Sea Gulls will head west for the 2023 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28.
- The championship meet will be hosted by UC Santa Cruz at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif. The men's race will be held at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT, followed by the women's race at 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT.
