No. 6 Field Hockey places six on All-C2C team; McDorman, Goetz win major hardware

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team saw six of its players named to the 2023 All-Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) First Team, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Forward Marli McDorman was recognized as C2C Rookie of the Year, while defender Christine Goetz took home C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Joining McDorman and Goetz on the All-C2C team are midfielder Mack Dinopoulos, defender Isabel Larrabee, forward Alayna Gigliotti, and forward McKenna Horner.

McDorman, a freshman from Pocomoke City, Md., put together a stellar debut for the Sea Gulls up front. She started 14 of 15 games, scoring eight goals with five assists for 21 point. Setting the tone early by finding the cage five times in the first three games of the season, McDorman tied for second on the team in goals during the regular season and currently sits tied for seventh in the C2C. Her point total ranks second and seventh on the team and in the league, respectively.

McDorman becomes the 12th conference rookie of the year in Salisbury history and second in a row after Horner took home the honors in 2022.

Goetz, a senior from Eldersburg, Md., becomes a two-time All-C2C honoree after making the first team in 2022. Goetz is an academic star with a 3.794 cumulative grade-point average as a Exercise Science major on an Allied Health track and a Psychology minor. A two-time C2C All-Academic honoree, she has made the SU College of Health and Human Sciences Dean's List five times, earned two National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholar of Distinction awards, made the NFHCA National Academic Squad twice, and was named a College Sports Communicators (C2C) At-Large Academic All-District honoree for 2022-23.

On the field, Goetz has anchored a Sea Gull defense that has recorded 10 shutouts over 15 games this season. Salisbury ranks fourth in NCAA Division III in shutouts per game (0.67) and sixth in goals against average (0.59).

Dinopoulos, a fifth-year senior from Lusby, Md., takes home All-C2C First Team accolades for the third straight season. She has started all 15 games in the midfield for SU, scoring four goals with six assists for 14 points while serving as one of the Sea Gulls' penalty corner specialists.

Larrabee, a junior from Lexington, Mass., played and started 13 games on the back line on the way to earning All-C2C First Team laurels for the third consecutive year. She and Goetz are two of the primary drivers behind Salisbury's nationally-ranked defense.

Gigliotti, a sophomore from Dover, Del., earns her first All-C2C accolades after putting together a strong campaign on both sides of the field. She started all 15 games and dished out five assists, including a key helper in the Sea Gulls' 2-0 conference win at Mary Washington on Oct. 14.

Horner, a sophomore from Deal Island, Md., follows up her stellar rookie campaign with an even stronger second year en route to a repeat All-C2C First Team slot. Horner scored eight goals and doled out eight assists for a team-high 24 points, ranking fifth in the C2C in the process. Horner scored six of her eight goals across three multi-score games, finding the back of the cage twice against Catholic, St. Mary's (Md.), and TCNJ.

Salisbury went 12-3 in the regular season and 1-1 in league competition during the regular season and earned the second seed in this week's C2C Tournament. The Sea Gulls will host third-seeded Mary Washington on Wednesday at 6 p.m., with the winner of that game advancing to face top-seeded Christopher Newport on Saturday.
