SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University cross country teams opened a season of great expectations with standout performances at the SU Fall Classic on Saturday morning at Winter Place Park.
The Sea Gull men snagged seven of the top nine places to breeze to a victory with 18 points, easily outclassing second-place Seton Hall (44) and third-place Shenandoah (82). Gallaudet (129) and Del Tech (133) rounded out the top five.
The Sea Gull women also delivered a strong race by placing four in the top 10 on the way to a second-place total of 45 points. Seton Hall won the women's portion with 19 points, while Shenandoah (65) finished third.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
- Matt Grossi broke the tape for the first time in his collegiate career, winning in a personal-best time of 25:20.8. The mark was the eighth-fastest for an SU runner at Winter Place Park since 2006.
- Austen Cave finished second in his first race for Salisbury in 25:55.2, followed closely by Connor Kinch in third at 25:56.5.
- Sam Bodmer made it a fourth Sea Gull in the top five by taking fifth in 26:06.6.
- Tristan Dutton (personal-best 26:15.9), Landon Lewicki (personal-best 26:30.3) and Ryan Cascone (26:33.9) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
- Garrett Saboy narrowly missed the top 10, taking 11th in 26:49.5. Shane Ivy snagged 15th in 27:13.3.
Women
UP NEXT
- The Sea Gulls will head down to Christopher Newport to compete in the CNU Classic on Friday, Sept. 15.
- The first race from Newport News, Va., is set for 4 p.m.
