Swimming holds pair of top 20s after return to action

SALISBURY, Md. – Presenting "Roadie Joes Rankings" for the fourth Wednesday in January. The Salisbury University swimming teams solidified their top-20 claims in their return to action, while football locked up one of its highest-ever rankings to close out the season. Baseball and men's tennis will also begin their seasons in the national polls.
 
Women's Swimming – 15th | Swimcloud Division III Dual-Meet Team Rankings
Salisbury came in with 652.31 points per quality of swims compared to each event's US Open record following its first competition of the 2025 calendar year. SU's mark placed them just behind 14th-ranked Hope (659.75) and 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon (647.76).
 
The Sea Gulls returned from winter break with a 226-72 victory over Stevens on Friday, improving their dual meet record on the season to 6-0. Salisbury caps the regular season with its Senior Day meet against Catholic on Saturday. Pre-meet ceremonies will begin at approximately 12:40 p.m. with the first action at Maggs Pool set for 1 p.m.
 
Men's Swimming – 17th | Swimcloud Division III Dual-Meet Team Rankings
Salisbury clocked in with 670.10 points per quality of swims, slotting in just behind 16th-ranked Coast Guard (673.96) and in front of 18th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (667.55).
 
The Sea Gulls returned from their hiatus with their fifth consecutive dual-meet win, downing Stevens 240-58 on Friday. Salisbury will host Catholic in its regular season finale on Saturday. Senior Day festivities begin at 12:40 p.m., with the first events in Maggs Pool at 1 p.m.
 
Football – 6th | D3football.com Poll, Final (Jan. 7)
Salisbury matched its highest standing in the Division III rankings this season by finishing the year at sixth nationally, up two positions from the start of the NCAA Tournament. SU garnered 477 points, just shy of fifth-ranked Springfield (484) and edging out seventh-ranked St. John's (Minn.) [475].
 
The Sea Gulls advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 2019, besting King's (Pa.) 33-13 in the second round and taking down Randolph-Macon 35-14 in the third round. SU's run came to an end against eventual national runner-up Mount Union, 38-17, in the quarters.
 
Offensive lineman Tre Price garnered a plethora of All-America awards, including American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First-Team All-American. Head coach Sherman Wood was recognized as AFCA Division III Coach of the Year, the first time a Sea Gull head coach has ever claimed the nation's top coaching honor.
 
Baseball – 7th | D3baseball.com Poll, Preseason (Jan. 17)
Salisbury earned 430 points, moving into the top 10 after finishing last season ranked 13th. SU will start 2025 parked between sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins (479) and eighth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer (417).
 
The Sea Gulls posted a 32-12 record in 2024 and won a fourth consecutive NCAA regional title. Among those returning to the SU lineup are All-American outfielder Andrew Kell, who was tabbed as a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American earlier this month, and two reigning All-Region honorees in first baseman Danny Sheeler and catcher Dylan Winebrenner.
 
Men's Tennis – 33rd | ITA Division III National Rankings (Jan. 15)
Salisbury was one of three Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) schools to make the first national rankings of the season. At 33rd, SU finds itself looking up at 32nd-ranked Grinnell and ahead of 34th-ranked Chapman.
 
The Sea Gulls went 14-5 during the 2024 season and advanced to the C2C Tournament semifinals. SU enters 2025 with All-C2C singles and doubles honorees Gianluca Beaujon and Jhayden Pappas back in the fold.
