HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – The Salisbury University men's golf team shaved seven strokes off its opening-round score and moved into a tie for ninth place at the Battle at Bulle Rock, hosted by Alvernia University, which wrapped up with the second round on Wednesday afternoon at Bulle Rock Country Club.
The Sea Gulls carded a 30-over 318 on the day to finish at a 67-over 643 four the tournament. SU moved from 10th place after round one into a tie for ninth in the field of 13, matching Juniata and edging out 11th-place Hood (644).
ROUND NOTES
- Colton Thomas recorded SU's best round of the day, shooting a five-over 77 with back-to-back birdies on eight and nine. Thomas carved seven strokes off his first-round total and moved into the top 40 in the field of 68, tying for 38th with a 17-over 161.
- Alex Langford birdied twice and shot an even par on the back nine, finishing with a seven-over 79. Langford totaled an 11-over 155 for the two rounds to tie for 18th.
- Ryan Henneman tied for 26th after shooting a 14-over 158 for the tournament, including a nine-over 81 in round two.
- Declan Gustavson also boasted a seven-stroke improvement from round one to two, carding a nine-over 81 to finish tied for 55th at a 25-over 169.
- Peter Carnegie posted the SU drop score with an 11-over 83, which was eight strokes better than his Tuesday total. Carnegie finished 63rd at a 30-over 174.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up their fall slate with a pair of rounds at The Melee, hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments on Sunday and Monday at Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg, Va.
