WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's golf team once again put together a strong showing and positioned itself to ascend the leaderboard, sitting fifth after the first round of The Melee, hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, on Sunday afternoon at Ford's Colony Country Club.
The Sea Gulls shot a 59-over 347 as a collective, just five strokes off its program record. SU wrapped the day in fifth place out of eight teams, one stroke up on sixth-place Bridgewater (348) and within shouting distance of third-place Drew (342) and fourth-place Shenandoah (344).
ROUND NOTES
- Krista Brosius entered the clubhouse tied for fifth out of 42 individuals after shooting a seven-over 79, matching both her career low and the lowest round in Sea Gull history. Brosius sank a birdie on the par-four third and at one point converted six straight pars from 12 through 17.
- Emma Wivell bested her own personal record by three strokes, shooting an 11-over 83 with a birdie on 14. She currently stands tied for ninth.
- Sydney Lynott posted a 16-over 88, good for a tie for 18th individually.
- Addison Sage is tied for 33rd after carding a 25-over 97, while Victoria Heid posted the SU drop score with a 27-over 99 that slots her in a tie for 36th.
The Sea Gulls will look to make their moves in the second and final round of The Melee on Monday morning at Ford's Colony.
