TEMPE, Ariz. – The Salisbury University men's and women's tennis teams, as well as
six men's athletes and
three women's athletes, were recognized for their academic excellence in 2024-25 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) last week, with both Sea Gull squads garnering ITA All-Academic Team distinction and nine individuals earning ITA Scholar-Athlete laurels.
The Sea Gull men who earned individual academic honors were
Chase Catullo,
Maas Jacobs,
Nicholas O'Dea,
Bobby Stabile,
Asher Willenborg, and
Russell Willenborg. On the women's side,
Gibelle Beaujon,
Lily Muir, and
Katherine Raab were singled out for their dual excellence on the court and in the classroom.
To be named a Scholar-Athlete by the ITA, student-athletes must hold a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.00 academic scale for the current academic year. At the Division III level, 1,115 men's individuals and 1,269 women's student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete distinction.
Programs that maintained a team GPA of at least 3.2 among all varsity letter winners for the academic year took home All-Academic team recognition. The Sea Gull men were among 135 Division III men's programs to earn the prize in 2024-25, while the Sea Gull women joined the 165 Division III women's sides to make the team honor roll.
The Salisbury tennis teams each posted winning marks in their final seasons under longtime head coach
Randy Halfpap, who
retired earlier this month. The Sea Gull men finished 13-6, with
Asher Willenborg taking home Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Year and ITA Atlantic South Region Player to Watch awards; the Sea Gull women slotted in at 10-7.
