WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Showing no sign of winter rust in its first spring tournament of the season, the Salisbury University men's golf team is the clubhouse leader halfway through the Premier Collegiate Tournaments Ruckus after the first round of play on Saturday at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
The Sea Gulls shot a one-over 289 as a team, three strokes off their best round of the program's modern era, and sit at the top of the field of 11 teams. Second-place Drew (292) finished the round three strokes back, with third-place McDaniel (300) and the rest over a dozen strokes off the pace.
ROUND NOTES
- Ryan Henneman is tied with three others for the lead in the individual field of 60 after shooting a two-under 70 for the round. Henneman birdied four holes, including back-to-back on seven and eight, against two bogeys.
- Alex Langford posted an even-par 72 with five birdies and five bogeys; he is tied for fifth and just two strokes behind Henneman and company at the top.
- Colton Thomas birdied three holes on the way to a one-over 73, good for a tie for seventh.
- Cameron Nicholson gave SU four top-10 scorecards for the round with a two-over 74, including birdies on three of the last five holes. He is in a five-way tie for 10th.
- Gage Bandy posted Salisbury's drop score at a five-over 77, still in the top half of the field.
The Sea Gulls will go for their first modern team tournament crown in the second and final round of The Ruckus on Sunday. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
