WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's golf team secured its best-ever team finish in the program's modern era by placing second at The Ruckus, hosted by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, whose second and final round was held on Sunday at Williamsburg National Golf Club.
The Sea Gulls shot an 11-over 299 for the round, just one of four teams in the field of 11 to shoot sub-300 for the day. The mark gave SU a two-round score of a 12-over 588 - tied for its best two-round score in the past two seasons - six strokes behind tournament winners Drew (582) but ahead of third- and fourth-place challengers McDaniel (589) and Stevens (594).
ROUND NOTES
- Colton Thomas birdied the first two holes and never looked back, shooting a team-best even-par 72 with four total birdies on the day. Thomas, who improved his Saturday card by one stroke, finished the tournament at a one-over 145, good for seventh in the field of 60 individuals.
- Alex Langford tied for eighth individually after carding a two-over 74, including a birdie on par-five seven, for a two-day total of two-over 146.
- Cameron Nicholson gave SU three top-10 finishers, shooting a one-over 73 with five birdies in the round and ultimately tying for 10th place with a three-over 147.
- Ryan Henneman carded an eight-over 80 and tied for 16th at a six-over 150.
- Gage Bandy posted the Salisbury drop score with a nine-over 81, finishing the weekend at 14-over 158 and tying for 33rd.
The Sea Gulls return to action next weekend at the two-day McDaniel Invitational, set to be held on Saturday and Sunday at The Bridges Golf Course in Abbotstown, Pa.
