ABBOTSTOWN, Pa. – For the first time in its modern era, the Salisbury University men's golf is top-of-the-perch at the end of a weekend tournament as winners of the McDaniel Spring Invitational, whose second and final round was held on Sunday at The Bridges Golf Course.
The Sea Gulls shot a 20-over 308 in the Sunday round, just two strokes off the pace they set on Saturday and good for a two-day card of a 39-over 615 that sat atop the field of 10 teams. The mark was good enough to outlast Goucher, who shaved 14 strokes off its opening-round total but finished just one stroke shy of SU at 40-over 616. The victory marks the golf program's first team title since the program returned as a varsity sport in the fall of 2024.
ROUND NOTES
- Cameron Nicholson matched his round-one score with a three-over 75 in round two, setting the tone with a birdie on par-four one and adding another on par-five eight. Nicholson finished tied for second in the individual field of 50 with a six-over 150, just two strokes back of individual champion Riley Ruby of Goucher.
- Ryan Henneman tied Nicholson for second overall after posting a six-over 78 for the day to card a two-day six-over 150.
- Gage Bandy made it three Sea Gulls in the top five by placing fifth at nine-over 153. Bandy carded a four-over 76 on Sunday, one stroke better than his round-one effort.
- Alex Langford improved by three strokes from round-to-round, shooting a seven-over 79 on the day and tying for 16th for the weekend at 17-over 161.
- Colton Thomas also shot a seven-over 79 for the day, a five-stroke improvement from Saturday, and tied for 18th with a 19-over 163 to assure top-20 slots for all five Salisbury golfers.
The Sea Gulls will look to build on their momentum with their first one-day event of the spring, the Elizabethtown Invitational on Thursday at Hershey Country Club East in Hershey, Pa. Tee time is tentatively marked for 12 p.m.
