Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury
used an outstanding second half surge to drop Mary Washington and
improve to 13-3 (5-1 CAC). With the loss, UMW falls to 10-6 (4-2
CAC) and out of a tie for first in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Trailing 2-0 at the start of the second half, Mary Washington
connected on a penalty stroke by Lauren Allen to pull within one
goal. The contest looked as if it would be tightly contested from
there on, but the Sea Gull offense shifted into high gear to score
nine unanswered.
Freshman Beverly Beladino (3 Goals) and senior
Abby Rowe (4G) combined for seven goals, and
Tracey Lloyd had a goal and two assists to lead the onslaught.
Beladino scored her first goal less than three minutes into the
game when she found a loose ball in front and laced it past Eagle
goalie, Katherine Brown. Beladino's third goal was a deflection off
a long pass from Danielle Twilley that was
threaded between defenders.
Rowe spent most of her time in the Mary Washington circle as she
found rebounds and deposited passes for goals. Rowe's last tally,
off a feed from leading scorer Megan Powell, made
the score 10-1, and Lloyd added the final score on a pass from
Heather Berntsen.
Ashley Twigg, Lauren Correll
and Ashley Spencer each added a goal apiece. The
Correll goal in the first half proved to be the game winner.
Mary Washington managed only the shot off the penalty corner as
the Salisbury midfield and defense played solid again. The Sea
Gulls dominated in penalty corners, 24-3, and shots, 32-1. Brown
made 13 saves in the losing effort, and Kim Blodgett had a
defensive save for the Eagles.

Catholic triumphed over St. Mary's to secure the number one seed
heading into the conference tournament. Catholic holds the
tiebreaker over Salisbury from its head-to-head win on October 4th.
The Sea Gulls final game of the regular season comes at home
versus Washington College on Wednesday, October 25.
