SALISBURY, Md. - The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team scored five unanswered goals, after falling behind early, against Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) College on Sunday afternoon en route to a 5-1 season opening victory. This was the first game on the new A-Turf field at Sea Gull Stadium for the SU field hockey team, who played before an estimated crowd of 225.

Salisbury (1-0, 1-0 CAC) saw St. Mary's (0-1, 0-1 CAC) strike first as Seahawk senior Ali Femi found the back of the Sea Gull cage at the nine minute mark. The unassisted goal gave the Seahawks the brief 1-0 lead.

The Sea Gulls battled back and scored back-to-back goals sophomore Beverly Beladino assisted Twigg's goal and Hancock recorded her first of three straight assists on the Correll mark. Salisbury took a 2-1 lead into the half.

SU goalie Maria Ramoundos made six saves in the game as the Gulls outshot the Seahawks 29-13. Salisbury also controlled the penalty corners, 25-7. St. Mary's goalie Emily Richards made 16 saves in the losing effort.

Salisbury will next travel to Newport News, Va., to face No. 13 Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. This is a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III second round playoff game where the Captains won 2-1 in overtime to snap Salisbury's bid for a fourth straight national championship.
