BALTIMORE - Johns Hopkins University back Zoe
Koven scored the game-winning goal, off a penalty corner with no
time left, Wednesday night to hand the No. 8 Blue Jays a 1-0 upset
of No. 2 Salisbury University in an in-state showdown. This is the
first regular-season loss for the Sea Gulls in 20 games while the
victory ties the highest ranked team JHU has ever beaten.
Salisbury (5-1) outshot Johns Hopkins (6-0) in the first half,
6-2, but the Blue Jays held the upper hand in the second half, 7-3.
The shot total was even by the end of the game at nine apiece.
Johns Hopkins was awarded 12 penalty corners, nine in the second
half, as the Blue Jays pressured the Salisbury cage.
SU goalie Claire Davey-Karlson (4-1 this
season) made five saves in the loss. Davey-Karlson is now 4-2
all-time in her career as a Sea Gull. She also played in the last
regular-season loss on September 5, 2007 against Christopher
Newport University.

Gulls with five shots, four on goal. Sophomores Kandice
Hancock and Christine Craddock added a

goal was assisted by Leah Horton. Horton's shot off the corner was
deflected by Koven into the Salisbury cage.
This is the first of three big road games for the Sea Gulls who
will next travel to Grantham, Pa., to face No. 6 Messiah College on
Saturday at 1 p.m.
