GLASSBORO, N.J. - The No. 9 Salisbury
University field hockey team got back on the winning track
Wednesday night with a 2-0 road victory against No. 7 Rowan
University. The victory snaps Salisbury's two-game losing streak
and Rowan's four-game win streak.
Salisbury (6-2) posted its fifth shutout as the maroon and gold
scored an early goal and added an insurance goal in the second
half. Sophomore goalie Anna Cooke (three
saves) started and played all 70 minutes in the cage for the Gulls.
Cooke (2-0) has two shutout wins to her credit this season.
Sophomore midfielder Kandice Hancock
scored the game's first goal off a penalty corner at the 14:13
mark. Hancock's fifth goal of the season was assisted by freshman
back Tara McGovern. SU held the 1-0 lead as
the teams went into halftime.
In the second half, SU increased its lead with an unassisted
goal by junior forward Lauren Correll in the
waning seconds of regulation. Correll has a team leading seven
goals this season.
Rowan (4-2) suffers its second loss of the season. Goalie Lisa
Apt made four saves in the loss.
Salisbury held a 17-6 shot advantage and 7-6 penalty corner edge
against the Profs.
The Sea Gulls return home ready to host York (Pa.) College in a
Capital Athletic Conference game on Saturday, September 27, at 1
p.m. in Sea Gull Stadium.
