Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Salisbury University
field hockey team posted its 10th shut out of the season
on Thursday, as the No. 2 ranked Sea Gulls took down Catholic
University, 2-0.
The Sea Gulls (14-1, 6-0 Capital Athletic Conference) got off to
a quick start as senior forward Beverly
Beladino (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) provided an assist to
senior forward Lauren
Correll (Bridgeville, Del.), who scored the first goal
just one minute into the competition. Catholic's (10-5) offense
tried to answer back, firing off five shots in a matter of minutes,
but sophomore goalkeeper Anna Cooke
(Ann Arbor, Mich.) further validated herself as one of
the top goalies in the nation by stopping all five attempts.
Salisbury came out swinging in the second half, as the Gulls
outshot Catholic, 9-0. The Sea Gulls scored again in the
52nd minute, as Correll returned the favor by passing
the ball to Beladino, who promptly put it past Catholic goalkeeper
Marian Cassilly (seven saves). The victory marks the end of
Salisbury's regular-season competition; the maroon and gold now set
their sights on capturing their 15th consecutive CAC
Championship.
The Gulls' perfect conference record earned them the top-seed in
the CAC tournament, along with a first-round bye. They will host
the semifinal round on Nov. 4 at Sea Gull Stadium. Game time is
TBA.
