Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 2 Salisbury University field hockey team defeated No. 19 Johns Hopkins University (3-2) on Wednesday evening, 5-0, at Sea Gull Stadium.
Salisbury (5-0) would prove its offensive dominance in the first half by scoring four unanswered goals. The first goal would come by way of junior Kristina Fusco who successfully sent a penalty stroke past the Blue Jays goalkeeper in the 16th minute of play. The spark was ignited and just two minutes later senior Caitlin Walker scored her third goal of the season as she lifted a shot into the back of the cage.
The maroon and gold put two more tallies on the board before the half finished. Walker sent a pass to the stroke mark to fellow senior Courtney Webster who one timed it into the backboard to bring the score to 3-0 with 12 minutes left in the half. The last goal of the half would come with five minutes left as Salisbury earned a penalty corner. The corner would result in a loose ball in front of the cage that Walker was able to collect and put away to give the Sea Gulls a 4-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Salisbury defense would see more action as Johns Hopkins earned five penalty corners and had five shots on goal, however, the defense held strong earning its second shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Anna Cooke earned the win and tallied four saves in the match.
The final goal of the contest was scored by senior Alison Bloodsworth, her fourth goal of the season, in the 59th minute as she flicked the ball from the top of the circle into the back of the net.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, the Sea Gulls will face the Spartans of York (Pa.) College in their first Capital Athletic Conference game of the season. The game will be held at Sea Gull Stadium, game time is set for 3 p.m.
