SALISBURY, Md. – A back-and-forth battle between two national powers went against the 17th-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team as the Sea Gulls dropped a close 3-2 matchup with the sixth-ranked Rowan Profs on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Rowan got on the board first in the ninth minute of the game. A penalty corner was sent across the arc to Kristiina Castagnola, who lifted a shot over the Salisbury defense for the opening goal of the contest.
• Salisbury responded five minutes later on a penalty corner of its own. Mack Dinopoulos inserted the corner to McKenzie Mitchell. Mitchell's slap shot went five-hole through the Rowan keeper's legs to tie the game at one in the first quarter.
• After a scoreless second quarter, Jordan Brooks put the Sea Gulls up one in the 43rd minute. Dinopoulos passed the ball ahead on a counter-attack that bounced in front of Brooks and shot past the keeper to give SU the 2-1 lead.
• Rowan tied the game in the 52nd minute when a loose ball in front of the cage allowed Rachel Stone to score.
• Six minutes later, Julia Patrone gave Rowan the lead and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Salisbury made the most of its opportunities, scoring two goals off three shots.
• Mack Dinopoulos assisted on both SU goals.
• Jordan Brooks and McKenzie Mitchell tallied the goals for the Sea Gulls.
• Dom Farrace made eight saves in goal.
• Before the game, Salisbury honored Farrace and Rebecca Lloyd for Senior Night.

ROWAN GAME NOTES

• Rowan held a 15-3 advantage in shots and a 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
• Rachel Stone, Julia Patrone and Kristiina Castagnola scored for the Profs.
