Field Hockey advances to C2C Finals after 3-1 win over UMW

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-seeded Salisbury University field hockey team survived an early deficit to prevail, 3-1, over the third-seeded Mary Washington Eagles in the semifinal round of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Championship Tournament on a chilly Wednesday night under the lights at Sea Gull Stadium.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless opening frame, Mary Washington struck first in the game's 17th minute. Sydney Keating picked up a Salisbury turnover in the midfield and passed the ball ahead to Emma Bernard, who snuck the ball past Dom Farrace for the first tally of the game.
  • Ten minutes later, Salisbury took advantage of a foul in the attacking zone and a quick change of possession. McKenzie Mitchell blasted the ball towards the net off the restart and Allie Davis redirected the shot past Chloe Billy to nod the game at one goal apiece.
  • Right before the end of the third quarter, the Sea Gulls took the one-goal lead. A penalty corner shot from Rebecca Lloyd deflected in front of the cage and right to Mack Dinopoulos, who cleaned up the loose ball to give SU the 2-1 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Salisbury added an insurance goal in the 49th minute. Mitchell received a penalty corner and rocketed a shot into the back of the cage to push Salisbury's lead up to 3-1 and clinch a trip to the conference finals.
