Salisbury Athletics Hall of Fame
One of the true titans of Sea Gull athletics, the late Knight becomes the first two-time inductee into the SU Athletics Hall of Fame after being enshrined as an athlete in the Class of 1995. Knight served as a head coach for the Salisbury softball and volleyball teams for a combined 40 seasons, earning Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year 18 times.
As softball head coach for 24 years from 1997-2020, Knight led SU to 846 wins, three NCAA finals appearances, nine College World Series, and 18 CAC championships. She is one of just 14 coaches in Division III history to win 800 games, and her .801 winning percentage ranks 12th all-time across all NCAA divisions. Upon her passing in 2022, the university christened its softball home as Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
As volleyball head coach for 16 years from 1997-2012, Knight’s Sea Gulls won 405 games and eight CAC championships, qualifying for eight NCAA Tournaments. During her final season in 2012, Salisbury set a program record with 37 wins and made its first trip to the NCAA quarterfinals.
