One of the early pioneers of the Title IX era in college athletics, Paula Wagasky made Salisbury State College history as the first woman to play on a men's varsity team, subsequently becoming the most decorated student-athlete of Sea Gull golf's first iteration. The Odenton, Md. native won back-to-back Middle Atlantic Women's Amateur titles in 1973 and 1974, following that up by qualifying for match play at the 1975 U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championships. Wagasky also stood out in events sanctioned by the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), official predecessor to the NCAA, finishing top-three at the Eastern AIAW Championship three times (1973-75) and qualifying for three consecutive AIAW National Golf Championships (1974-76).

After graduating from SSC, Wagasky played professionally for five years before catching on as a teaching pro at Buffalo Grove Golf Club just north of Chicago, a position she holds to this day. She has been recognized for excellence multiple times by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), winning LPGA National Golf Professional of the Year in 1991 and earning the LPGA Midwest Section's Goldie Bateson Service Award in both 2000 and 2003.
